I’m about to do what a real journalists are afraid to do—eat crow. Saturday I posted an article where I railed against Governor Gregg Abbott. I stand by my criticism of him but, he served up a delicious helping of crow to me Sunday night. In the eleventh hour, literally, Gregg Abbott vetoed Senate Bill 3. Delta 8 THC, for now, remains legal for the foreseeable future.
Of course Abbott served up that crow with a special glaze of agave nectar, tequila, and hemp flowers. I’m happy that at least Gregg Abbott is concerned about the 50,000 jobs and 7,000 small business that in good faith opened their doors. But I am lividly pissed that Lt. Governor Dan Patrick immediately attacked Gov. Abbott. Once again he cited the children, and protecting the children, we have to do it for the children.
I truly believe that Dan Patrick is doing it for Big Pharma, Big Liquor, and Big Religion. He doesn’t care about the kids anymore than you or I do. I care about my kids. I never gave my kids Delta 8. I don’t need Dan Patrick looking out for my kid’s welfare, that is my job, and that is your job too.
I’ve followed Dan Patrick’s career since the 1980s. I think he has been mostly descent, but on this issue he is as ugly as a politician can get. Lies, half truths, misinformation—that’s what goes on his morning Corn Flakes instead of sugar. They fuel his fire to stamp out Delta 8.
Big Pharma wants to control how you control your pain, anxiety, depression, and sickness. Anything that is marketed and effective for replacing Big Pharma brands is attacked from all sides. I’m not saying Delta 8 is a cure all, but it is effective for pain, anxiety, depression, and some illness.
Big Liquor want’s to be the exclusive provider of chemical mind altering substances. I get that, I really do. Delta 8 users report reduced alcohol use, they are trading six packs for vapes, gummies, and THC infused drinks. Big Liquor doesn’t like competition, never has, never will.
And Big Religion is steeped in ignorance and misconception. Most in the Big Religion camp are believe that Reefer Madness is a factual documentary of the dangers of weed. However, no real doctor or scientist would agree. Religion being against mind altering substances is nothing new. Also, Big Religion being hypocritical is nothing new. When doctors were prescribing opiates as if they were m&m’s Big Religion said nothing.
Ignorance is the key to tyranny. If you can keep the population ignorant of the facts, or muddy the waters, you can keep control. Dan Patrick is firmly in the pocket of Big Pharma, Big Liquor, and Big Religion. It is either that, or he is incapable of critical thinking. Either way, you lose sucker, but Texas wins. Damn this crow is lovely!!!
